The Chonnam National University Scholarships 2027 offer international students an opportunity to pursue master's, PhD, and integrated master's-PhD programmes in South Korea. Chonnam National University (CNU) has opened applications for the Spring 2027 intake, with programmes covering fields such as engineering, artificial intelligence, business, nursing, humanities, arts, marine sciences, and other academic disciplines.

For international applicants, admission and scholarship planning should be considered together. CNU offers several tuition scholarship options, while additional financial support may depend on a professor, laboratory, department, or external scholarship. Applicants should therefore confirm the funding arrangement before assuming that an award covers the full duration of the degree.

Chonnam National University Scholarships 2027

CNU lists several scholarships for newly admitted international graduate students. Some provide full tuition coverage for the first semester, while another provides a partial tuition reduction.

The main scholarship options include:

  • Global Top-Tier Scholarship: Full first-semester tuition waiver for newly admitted international PhD students. A separate application form is required, with the schedule to be announced.
  • Global Scholarship: Full first-semester tuition waiver. Eligible successful applicants are considered without a separate scholarship application.
  • TOPIK Scholarship: Full first-semester tuition waiver for applicants holding TOPIK Level 6.
  • SRS / BK SRS: Full first-semester tuition waiver for eligible students. A prospective CNU adviser is required for consideration.
  • Academic Excellence Scholarship: Approximately 12 to 17 percent tuition reduction for successful applicants.

Scholarship awards are subject to CNU's conditions and available budget. Duplicate scholarship awards are generally not permitted.

Chonnam National University Graduate Admission Eligibility

Applicants can apply for master's, PhD, or integrated master's-PhD programmes, depending on the department.

For master's or integrated programmes, applicants must hold or expect to receive a recognized bachelor's degree or equivalent. PhD applicants must hold or expect to receive a recognized master's degree or equivalent.

The general international admission route normally requires the applicant and both parents to be non-Korean. CNU also provides an alternative route for qualifying applicants who completed their education entirely outside Korea.

Applicants changing their academic field for doctoral admission may need a recommendation from the head professor of the receiving department.

English and Korean Language Requirements

Language requirements vary by programme and department. CNU's general admission routes include Korean and English qualifications.

Accepted English qualifications may include IELTS 5.5, TOEFL iBT 59, CEFR B2, NEW TEPS 202, or TOEIC 700. TOPIK Level 3 or completion of CNU's Korean Level 3 course may also meet the general Korean requirement.

Some departments require higher scores. For example, certain programmes may request IELTS 6.0 or additional documentation. Applicants should therefore check the requirements of their selected department before applying.

Language test results must meet CNU's validity requirements. Some applicants from English-speaking countries may qualify for an exemption from the general English requirement.

How to Apply for CNU Scholarships 2027

The Chonnam National University admission process involves both an online application and submission of required documents.

Step 1: Select a Programme

Choose one eligible department and degree programme. Review the department's academic, language, research, and portfolio requirements before beginning the application.

Step 2: Contact a Professor

Prospective graduate students should identify a professor whose research interests match their proposed field. Discuss supervision, research opportunities, and possible financial support. Some scholarship programmes require prospective adviser involvement.

Step 3: Prepare Documents

Applicants generally need academic certificates, transcripts, passport and nationality documents, language test results, personal statements, and other CNU forms. PhD applicants should prepare records for both bachelor's and master's studies.

Certain departments may request research plans, portfolios, performance recordings, or other additional materials.

Step 4: Provide Financial Evidence

Applicants must meet CNU's financial documentation requirements. The admission guide lists an accepted financial route equivalent to KRW 16,000,000. This can involve a qualifying bank certificate, a professor's financial-support form, or an external scholarship certificate.

Step 5: Complete the Online Application

Applications are submitted through the designated online application system. Applicants must complete the form, upload the required information, and pay the KRW 70,000 application fee.

After completing the online process, applicants should print the necessary forms and submit the required original documents to CNU according to the admission guide.
