The Erasmus Mundus GEM Scholarship 2027 in Europe offers an excellent opportunity for international students seeking advanced training in geo-information science, Earth observation, environmental modelling, and environmental management. The GEM Erasmus Mundus Joint Master is a two-year, English-taught programme that allows students to study at partner universities in different European countries and earn a double degree.

Selected students may receive Erasmus Mundus scholarship funding that includes full tuition, insurance, and a €1,400 monthly allowance for up to 24 months. The programme combines academic learning with international mobility and specialised training designed for students interested in environmental and geospatial challenges.

GEM Erasmus Mundus Scholarship 2027 Benefits

The GEM Scholarship provides substantial financial support to successful scholarship recipients. The benefits include:

  • Full tuition fee waiver
  • Student insurance
  • €1,400 monthly allowance
  • Financial support for up to 24 months
  • Maximum total allowance of €33,600

The monthly allowance is intended to help students manage costs such as accommodation, living expenses, travel, visas, residence permits, study materials, and a laptop.

Beyond financial support, GEM offers an international learning experience. Students spend one year in each of two countries and graduate with a double degree from participating institutions.

GEM Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

Applicants from around the world can apply provided they satisfy the programme's academic and language requirements.

Academic Requirements

Applicants must hold a recognized Bachelor's degree equivalent to at least three full-time years or 180 ECTS. The qualification should normally correspond to a First Class or Upper Second Class (2.1) result or an accepted equivalent.

A Lower Second Class (2.2) degree does not meet the stated academic requirement.

Final-year Bachelor's students can also apply. They may submit their current academic transcripts together with a university statement confirming their student status and expected graduation.

Applicants interested in the Developer and Modeller pathways are strongly recommended to have at least 15 ECTS in GIS or remote sensing.

Other Eligibility Conditions

The two countries where students study must differ from their country of residence at enrolment. Applicants should also review GEM's funding conditions because previous recipients of certain Erasmus Mundus scholarships may not be eligible for another GEM award.

There is no work experience requirement and no age limit stated for applicants.

GEM Erasmus Mundus Programme Structure

The GEM programme focuses on Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation for Environmental Modelling and Management. It provides four specialised study tracks and combines study at different partner universities.

Students spend their two academic years across two countries. This international structure helps participants develop technical expertise while gaining experience in different European academic environments.

The programme is particularly relevant to students interested in geospatial technologies, environmental modelling, Earth observation, sustainability, and evidence-based environmental management.

English Language Requirements

Applicants must meet the programme's English-language requirements. Accepted tests include IELTS Academic, TOEFL iBT, Cambridge English qualifications, PTE Academic, and LANGUAGECERT Academic, subject to the programme's stated minimum scores.

For IELTS Academic, the requirement is 6.5 overall with at least 6.0 in each section. Other accepted tests have specific minimum scores.

Duolingo and IELTS General Training are not accepted. Applicants should check the official requirements carefully because country-specific exemptions may apply.
