Planning to study in Sweden with a Uppsala University scholarship for autumn 2027 requires careful preparation because university admission comes before the scholarship application. The international degree application period opens on 16 October 2026 and closes on 15 January 2027. Uppsala University expects its separate scholarship application period to open in early 2027, although the exact scholarship deadline has not yet been announced.

For international students who are required to pay tuition fees, Uppsala currently lists two major full-tuition scholarship opportunities: the Uppsala University Global Scholarship for eligible master’s applicants and Anders Wall’s Scholarship for Studies at Uppsala University for eligible African citizens applying for bachelor’s or master’s programmes.

Uppsala University Scholarships 2027 Overview

The scholarships are highly competitive and cover full tuition fees for an eligible programme. They do not provide a monthly stipend or generally cover living expenses, accommodation, or travel.

Which Uppsala University Scholarship Can You Apply For?

Your citizenship, tuition-fee status, and intended degree level determine which scholarship you may be eligible for.

Uppsala University Global Scholarship

The Uppsala University Global Scholarship is intended for citizens from outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland who apply for eligible international master’s programmes. The scholarship covers the full tuition fee for the programme.

Anders Wall Scholarship

Anders Wall’s Scholarship for Studies at Uppsala University is available to citizens of African countries applying for eligible international bachelor’s or master’s programmes. It also covers the full tuition fee.

An African applicant applying for a master’s degree may potentially meet the criteria for both scholarships. However, a successful applicant can receive only one scholarship. Neither scholarship is intended for PhD studies.

What Does the Uppsala Scholarship Cover?

Full tuition coverage can significantly reduce the cost of studying in Sweden, but students should understand what the scholarship does not cover. Uppsala University does not list a monthly living allowance, travel grant, or accommodation funding with these scholarships.

Students should therefore prepare a separate financial plan for housing, food, transportation, insurance, personal expenses, and other living costs in Sweden. Uppsala also advises students not to rely on part-time employment as their primary financial plan.

Applicants should also check whether their chosen programme is eligible because several programmes are excluded from the university's scholarship schemes.

What Should You Prepare Before October 2026?

Preparation should begin before the international application opens. Start by identifying an eligible Uppsala programme and carefully reviewing its academic and English-language requirements.

For many master's programmes, applicants need a recognised bachelor's degree equivalent to 180 ECTS credits, relevant previous studies, and proof of English proficiency. Applicants in their final year may be considered conditionally if they provide the required academic documentation and confirmation of expected graduation.

Uppsala commonly requires English 6/English Level 2 for master's programmes. Accepted evidence can include IELTS Academic with an overall score of 6.5 and no section below 5.5, or TOEFL iBT with an overall score of 90 and at least 20 in writing. Requirements can vary by programme.Prepare your passport, academic transcripts, English-language evidence, CV, motivation materials, and any programme-specific documents well in advance.

How to Apply for Uppsala University Scholarships

The application process has two separate stages: degree admission and scholarship application.

Step 1: Choose Your Programme

Select an eligible Uppsala University programme for autumn 2027. If you want to be considered for the university's scholarships, Uppsala must be ranked first among your programme choices.

Step 2: Apply for Admission

Submit your application through University Admissions in Sweden before 15 January 2027. Save the eight-digit application number issued by the admissions portal because you will need it for the scholarship application.

Step 3: Complete Admission Requirements

Applicants who are required to pay the Swedish application fee must pay SEK 900. Supporting documents must be submitted by 1 February 2027, following the applicable instructions.

Step 4: Apply for the Scholarship

When Uppsala opens its scholarship application in early 2027, eligible applicants can complete the separate scholarship form. The scholarship application is free and requires a motivation statement of no more than 350 words. No additional document uploads are required for the scholarship form.

Uppsala University 2027 Deadlines

The international admissions application opens on 16 October 2026. The deadline for autumn 2027 degree applications is 15 January 2027, followed by the deadline for the application fee and supporting documents on 1 February 2027.

The Global Scholarship and Anders Wall Scholarship deadline for autumn 2027 has not yet been announced. Uppsala expects the scholarship round to take place in early 2027, so applicants should regularly check the official scholarship information.
