International students planning to study in China in 2027 can begin preparing now for the Xiamen University Scholarships 2027. Xiamen University (XMU) offers several scholarship routes for international students, covering opportunities at bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral and selected non-degree levels.

The official 2027–2028 scholarship guides and deadlines had not yet been released when the information was verified on September 22, 2026. However, previous admission cycles indicate that some applications could begin from December 2026. Therefore, early preparation is essential for students who need language certificates, recommendation letters, research proposals and other supporting documents.

Xiamen University Scholarships 2027 Overview

The term “Xiamen University Scholarship” does not refer to one single funding program. XMU participates in several Chinese and university-level scholarship schemes, and each has different eligibility requirements, benefits and application procedures.

Potential opportunities for the 2027–2028 intake include:

  • Chinese Government Scholarship – University Program
  • Chinese Government Scholarship – Bilateral Program
  • Xiamen University New International Students Scholarship
  • Fujian Provincial Government Scholarship
  • Sustainable Coastal Development Scholarship
  • International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship
  • China Studies Program PhD Fellowships
  • MOFCOM and other specialized scholarship programs

Applicants should carefully select a scholarship based on their nationality, academic level, intended program and research interests.

How Much Funding Can Xiamen University Scholarships Provide?

Scholarship benefits vary significantly between programs. Some awards can provide comprehensive financial support, while others cover only tuition or provide a fixed annual contribution.

Previous Chinese Government Scholarship packages included tuition, accommodation or an accommodation subsidy, medical insurance and monthly stipends. The reported monthly allowances were approximately RMB 2,500 for bachelor’s students, RMB 3,000 for master’s students and RMB 3,500 for doctoral students.

Previous Xiamen University awards also provided tuition coverage for selected students. Certain postgraduate recipients could receive approximately RMB 3,000 per month for master’s study or RMB 3,500 per month for PhD study.

The Fujian Provincial Government Scholarship previously provided RMB 30,000 for bachelor’s students, RMB 40,000 for master’s students and RMB 50,000 for doctoral students for one academic year.

These figures are based on previous scholarship cycles. Students should wait for the official 2027–2028 scholarship guides before treating them as confirmed benefits.

Who Can Apply for Xiamen University Scholarships 2027?

Eligibility depends on the scholarship and degree program. International applicants may be considered for bachelor’s, master’s and PhD opportunities, but nationality restrictions apply to some awards.

Previous age requirements included being under 25 for bachelor’s applicants, under 35 or 40 for master’s applicants depending on the scholarship, and under 40 or 45 for doctoral applicants.

Applicants should also satisfy the academic requirements of their selected XMU program. Doctoral and research-based applicants may need strong academic records, research experience, a research proposal and evidence of academic achievement.

Is IELTS Required for Xiamen University Scholarships?

For English-medium programs, XMU’s previous admission requirements accepted IELTS Academic with an overall score of at least 6.0 or TOEFL iBT with a minimum score of 80. An acceptable English-medium-of-instruction certificate could also be used in eligible circumstances.

Applicants to Chinese-medium programs generally need HSK certification. Previous requirements commonly included HSK 5 for humanities, economics, management, law and arts programs, while science, engineering, medicine and physical education programs generally required HSK 4.

Because language requirements can differ by program and scholarship, applicants should check the specific 2027 admission guide before registering for an examination.

What Documents Should You Prepare Before December 2026?

Early preparation can make the application process much easier. Prospective applicants should begin gathering:

  • Valid ordinary passport
  • Degree certificates
  • Complete academic transcripts
  • Recommendation letters
  • Updated CV
  • Personal statement or study plan
  • Research proposal for postgraduate applicants
  • English or Chinese language certificate
  • Academic publications or awards, where applicable
  • No-criminal-record certificate
  • Foreigner Physical Examination Form
  • Financial support documentation

Documents issued in languages other than Chinese or English may require notarized translations.Applicants should also avoid obtaining time-sensitive documents too early. Medical examination reports and police clearance certificates must normally remain valid when the application is submitted.

What Should Bachelor’s Applicants Know About CSCA?

Bachelor’s applicants should pay particular attention to the China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA). XMU’s previous undergraduate admission requirements included a CSCA score report.

Mathematics was compulsory, while professional Chinese and subjects such as physics or chemistry could be required depending on the intended field and language of instruction.

Students planning undergraduate study should therefore prepare for both the university admission requirements and scholarship requirements rather than waiting until applications officially open.

Should Master’s and PhD Applicants Contact a Supervisor?

Master’s and PhD applicants, particularly those interested in research-focused scholarships, should consider contacting potential supervisors before the application period begins.

A strong initial email can include a brief introduction, academic CV, research interests, proposed research topic and explanation of how the applicant’s interests connect with the professor’s research.

For some previous scholarship routes, a pre-acceptance letter from an XMU supervisor was an important supporting document. Requirements can change for 2027–2028, so applicants should follow the new official instructions when released.

How to Apply for Xiamen University Scholarships 2027

The application method depends on the scholarship. For university-managed scholarships, applicants generally need to submit an international student admission application through the XMU Online Application System. Applicants for the CSC University Program may also need to apply through the China Scholarship Council system.

Students applying through the CSC Bilateral Program normally follow instructions from the Chinese embassy or authorized agency in their country.

Specialized scholarships, including Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship and other government-supported awards, may use separate application platforms.

Applicants should never assume that one application automatically covers every scholarship. Each funding scheme should be checked individually.

Expected Xiamen University Scholarship Deadlines 2027–2028

Based on the previous admission cycle, some Xiamen University scholarship applications could open around December 2026. The CSC University Program may follow a window extending into February 2027, while some university and Fujian scholarship routes may remain open into April.

These are planning estimates, not confirmed 2027–2028 deadlines. XMU may change its schedule, requirements or scholarship availability.
